HARRIET TUBMAN PIONEERS "THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD" (1849)
One of the novel's main characters, Eliza, escapes from slavery using the Underground Railroad. Eliza used the path that traveled alongside the Mississippi River as this river travels from the North of the US all the way to the South, making it an effective way to navigate to the North if you are escaping slavery.
WILLIAM LLOYD GARRISON PUBLISHES "THE LIBERATOR"
"The Liberator" aimed to convince people to end slavery by discussing how immoral it was. This is similar to Uncle Tom's Cabin as Harriet Beecher Stowe published it in order for readers to feel sympathy towards the hard and unfair life for the slaves.
FREDERICK DOUGLASS PUBLISHES "THE NORTH STAR"
"The North Star" was an anti-slavery newspaper written by Frederick Douglass. It was published weekly and it became one of the most influential antislavery publications of the pre-Civil war time period. In the different issues, Douglass would discuss various anti-slavery pieces of literature with one of them being Uncle Tom's Cabin.
